Water Heater Problems: Signs It’s Time to Call the Experts

There are instances wherein you may encounter problems with your water heater, either there is no hot water coming out of your tap, or there is an inadequate supply of it. In some cases, you may even hear strange noises coming out of your water heater or detect leaks around it.

While there are some water heater problems that you can do by yourself, there are also those which are better left in the hands of the experts. In the case of the latter, below are some of the signs that it’s time for you to call professional hot water heater repair plumbers. They are the ones who are in the best position to help you find the root cause of your water heater problems and address the issue.

No Hot Water

One of the primary signs that you need to call a professional plumber is when there is no hot water coming out of your tap. However, you can still make some essential checks such as verifying whether the standing pilot or pilot light of your heater went out if you have a gas-powered system. Alongside this, you can also check whether the circuit breaker tripped or whether the thermocouple of your heater is already faulty.

Not Enough Hot Water

Another sign that you should already need to call an expert plumber is when there is not enough hot water coming from your water heater. It can be that when you initially turn on your tap, hot water may be available, but then suddenly the water becomes cold after a couple of minutes. It can also be that you have warm water, but its temperature level can no longer be raised. In these instances, the heating element of your water heater may be at fault.

Strange Noises from the Water Heater

When you hear funny sounds coming from your water heater, then it is time for you to have professional plumbers check it. It can be that loud popping, cracks, or banging, are caused by mineral build-up on the heating element of your water heater. This means that the heating element is already burning the sediments. Otherwise, the noise may be caused by the heating element itself, particularly when it is on the verge of burning out.

Smelly or Murky Water

In some cases, you may detect a foul odour from the water coming out of your tap. It may smell like sulphur, which can be because of bacteria inside the tank or the hoses of your heater. In other cases, the water may smell like a rotten egg, which can be a sign that your water heater is compromised. You may even encounter cloudy water coming out of your tap, which is also a sign of a failing water heater that already needs to be checked by a seasoned plumber.

Leaking Tank

Finally, when you notice any leaks in your tank, then make sure to get in touch with a professional plumber immediately. The reason behind this is that when your tank already has leaks, it needs to be replaced as soon as possible. Make sure to turn off the water supply to the tank, otherwise, the risk of flooding is imminent.

The Bottomline

There are certain hot water heater problems that you will be able to effortlessly repair on your own, but there are also those which are better left to be handled by professional plumbers. If you insist on attempting the repairs by yourself, you may only end up with a bigger problem in the end. Rest assured that professional plumbers are not only equipped with the knowledge, skills, and training to do the job right the first time, but they have the proper tools as well.
