Four Things you Can Do Before Your Kitchen Renovation Project

by Justin SansburyApril 15, 2020April 15, 20200931

If you are like other homeowners, you are probably spending time at home and using your kitchen for home-cooked meals. If you are planning a kitchen remodel with Vima Design, you must determine what you want in your project and the pros will execute your plan. Although your project may not start for a few months, below are some things you can do to prepare for it:

Declutter your Kitchen

You probably have extra pots, gadgets, pans, and tableware that you don’t use that often. Now is the perfect time to go through your kitchen and pull out the pieces you won’t use anymore. Put them aside to donate to charity. Having just the items you need for your new kitchen will help you in planning your cabinet space better. You will be able to know the amount of space you need and plan specialty cabinets for the items you keep or wish to purchase.

Identify your Work Zones

Your kitchen’s main zones include the preparation, cooking, and washing zones. Do you have to carry prepped food across the kitchen to your stove? If so, you can have an awkward cooking experience. Also, your layout is not working if you need to run all over the kitchen when putting away dishes from the dishwasher. Consider the amount of space you may need to prep and whether or not your current layout works for your lifestyle.

Create a List of your Priorities

Every successful kitchen remodels begin with a budget. However, you need to plan carefully where to splurge and where to save take careful planning. If you prioritize functionality and storage space, consider custom cabinets. If you want to prioritize aesthetics, think about spending more on your backsplash to give your kitchen a unique look. Or perhaps you want to change the layout, which requires electrical and plumbing work. Regardless of your choice, ensure you understand how various aspects will affect your budget.

Plan a Temporary Kitchen Space

During a kitchen renovation, you won’t be able to use your kitchen. However, a temporary kitchen space will ease the interruption to your daily life. If you want to renovate your kitchen in the summer, consider adding prep space next to a grill or on the deck. Also, you can move your fridge to the garage or basement and set up a folding table with a toaster, microwave, and coffee machine. Make use of other space in your home to ensure you can still prepare home-cooked meals for your family during the remodel.
